Berry & Plum Skillet Crumble – Silent Film Episode

We all know bad things happen when I bake sweets in the kitchen. Luckily, my wonderful friend Acacia delivered sweet, sweet smells in my oven last week. She’s an AMAZING baker with an awesome personality to match. I couldn’t ask for more in a guest on our show!

She mentioned a Charlie Chaplinesque costume she wore last year, and we decided it was a must for this episode. Coincidentally, this coming Monday April 16th is Chaplin’s birthday! Go figure! We originally intended to run a short skit as our intro, but while filming it became obvious that the entire video should be in silent film style. It was freakin’ hilarious!! Easily the funest episode to film yet.

I’ve been wanting to try something different with a cast iron skillet, so dessert was anĀ interestingĀ route. Acacia’s magic touch to this crumble made it one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Use whatever fruit is in season! I’m looking forward to trying this when rhubarbs come around in the next few months. The fruit bubbled down into a perfect balance of sweet and tart, while the oat crumb added a beautiful texture and heartiness. Bravo, Acacia! I’m sure we made Charlie proud ;)
